Understanding Altruistic Surrogacy: Laws, Costs, and Procedures in India

For couples struggling with infertility, surrogacy often provides a ray of hope to fulfill their dream of parenthood. In India, altruistic surrogacy is the only legal form of surrogacy, making it important for intended parents to understand its laws, costs, and procedures. At SCI IVF Hospital, we guide couples through every step of this sensitive and life-changing journey.

What is Altruistic Surrogacy?

Altruistic surrogacy involves a surrogate mother carrying a child for intended parents without any financial compensation, except medical expenses and insurance. This ensures ethical practices and safeguards for both the surrogate and the intended parents.

Surrogacy Laws in India

Under the Surrogacy (Regulation) Act, commercial surrogacy is strictly prohibited. Only altruistic surrogacy is allowed, and couples must meet specific eligibility criteria:

  • Married heterosexual couples
  • Female partner aged 23–50 years and male partner aged 26–55 years
  • No surviving biological or adopted child (with some exceptions)

These laws are designed to protect the rights of surrogate mothers and promote transparency in the process.

Surrogacy Procedure at SCI IVF Hospital

  1. Medical Evaluation – Detailed fertility assessments of the intended parents.
  2. Legal Documentation – Ensuring compliance with Indian surrogacy regulations.
  3. IVF & Embryo Transfer – Embryos created using the couple’s gametes (or donor if required) are transferred to the surrogate.
  4. Pregnancy Care – Continuous medical monitoring, counseling, and support throughout pregnancy.
  5. Birth & Legal Parentage – Legal safeguards ensure the intended parents are recognized as the child’s legal guardians.

Cost of Altruistic Surrogacy in India

While exact expenses vary, altruistic surrogacy cost in Delhi, India generally covers:

  • Medical treatments (IVF, medications, tests)
  • Surrogate’s healthcare and pregnancy-related expenses
  • Legal documentation and insurance

Since no commercial payments are allowed, costs are significantly lower than in many other countries, making India a trusted destination for surrogacy.

Why Choose SCI IVF Hospital?

At SCI IVF Hospital, we combine medical expertise, legal guidance, and emotional care to ensure couples experience a smooth surrogacy journey. Our compassionate approach and advanced fertility treatments make us one of the leading surrogacy centres in India.

Conclusion

Altruistic surrogacy in India is a legally safe and ethically regulated path for couples dreaming of parenthood. At SCI IVF Hospital, we are committed to turning your dreams into reality with trusted care and expertise.

Things to Consider Before Going for IVF Treatment in Delhi

In vitro fertilization (IVF) is a widely used fertility treatment that has helped countless couples fulfill their dream of parenthood. While IVF offers hope, it’s important to approach the process well-informed and emotionally prepared. At SCI IVF Hospital, our experts guide patients every step of the way to ensure a smooth and transparent journey.

Here are the key things to consider before opting for IVF treatment:

1. Understand Your Fertility Diagnosis

Before starting IVF, it's crucial to undergo a complete fertility evaluation. Both partners should be tested to determine the root cause of infertility—whether it's related to ovulation disorders, tubal issues, male factor infertility, or unexplained causes. At SCI IVF Hospital, we perform comprehensive diagnostics to create a treatment plan tailored to your needs.

2. Choose the Right IVF Clinic

Success in IVF largely depends on the expertise of the fertility specialists and the technology used. Look for a clinic with a high success rate, personalized care, and experienced doctors. SCI IVF Hospital in Delhi is known for its advanced IVF technology, compassionate care, and individualized treatment protocols.

3. Know the Financial Aspects

IVF can be a significant financial investment. It's essential to discuss the cost of IVF cycles, medications, tests, and any additional procedures such as ICSI or embryo freezing. At SCI IVF Hospital, we offer affordable IVF packages without compromising on quality, making fertility treatment accessible to more families.

4. Be Prepared Emotionally

IVF can be emotionally demanding. The process involves hormone treatments, multiple appointments, and a waiting period that can be stressful. Consider counseling or support groups, and be open with your partner and care team. SCI IVF Hospital offers emotional support through every stage of the IVF journey.

5. Understand the Procedure

Knowing what to expect—from ovarian stimulation and egg retrieval to embryo transfer—helps reduce anxiety. Our team at SCI IVF Hospital ensures that every patient is educated about each step, helping them feel confident and in control throughout the treatment.

6. Evaluate Lifestyle Factors

Lifestyle choices like smoking, alcohol, poor diet, and stress can negatively impact IVF outcomes. Making positive changes before beginning IVF increases your chances of success. Our fertility experts provide pre-IVF guidance on nutrition, fitness, and mental health.

7. Discuss Legal and Ethical Considerations

In some cases, especially where donor eggs, sperm, or surrogacy is involved, there may be legal and ethical matters to consider. Our legal experts at SCI IVF Hospital help you understand the regulations and your rights.

Why Choose SCI IVF Hospital?

SCI IVF Hospital is a trusted name in fertility care, known for its:

  • High IVF success rates
  • Experienced fertility specialists
  • World-class infrastructure

Endometriosis and PCOS Affect 190M Women: Dr. Shivani Sachdev Gour

190 million women suffer from Endometriosis and PCOS — Learn about the causes and treatment options from IVF expert Dr. Shivani Sachdev Gour.

Endometriosis and PCOS are two major conditions affecting the fertility of millions of women. However, there's no need to lose hope — motherhood is still possible. The key lies in understanding the impact of these conditions and seeking the right treatment.

The term ‘infertility’ often carries a negative connotation. In India, especially, it is unfortunately associated with social stigma. In our society, marriage is traditionally seen as a sacred beginning to parenthood. But today, women’s lifestyles, priorities, and challenges are evolving. Similarly, for many men, marriage is not just about having children but also about companionship.

As a result, some couples choose to delay parenthood, while others may decide not to have children at all. Beyond personal choices, many external factors are also affecting the reproductive health of both women and men. Among these, Endometriosis and PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) are common causes.

PCOS not only leads to painful periods but can also impact a woman’s ability to conceive. However, it is not incurable. With expert guidance and proper treatment, it is entirely possible for women with PCOS to become mothers.

Dr. Shivani Sachdev Gour, Director of SCI IVF Hospital, located in Greater Kailash, Delhi, shares in-depth insights into how PCOS affects fertility and what treatment options are available.

Dr. Shivani Sachdev Gour on NDTV News to Discuss How Child Marriage Impacts Girls' Lives

Asmita Dubey (Anchor) NDTV News: "Hello and a warm welcome to all of you. I am Asmita Dubey. As you can see behind me, what have we written? We have with us Dr. Shivani Sachdev Gour. Dr. Shivani, child marriages often lead to not only physical problems but also mental distress. Marrying at such a young age not only affects the current generation but also poses challenges for future generations, doesn’t it?"

Dr. Shivani Sachdev Gour: "Absolutely correct, Jyoti. Physically and mentally, a girl under the age of eighteen is never ready for this responsibility because her development is not complete at this stage. The reason it is so dangerous is that studies, especially those on maternal mortality (the death of a mother during pregnancy), have shown that the highest death rate is found in girls who get pregnant under the age of eighteen. This is a United Nations developmental goal, and it reflects on the development index of an entire country, which includes the maternal mortality rate.

Pregnancy at this age is the most dangerous time for a girl, and it is crucial to emphasize and understand this. For instance, anemia is very common among these girls, with over fifty percent being anemic. Pregnancy in such cases increases the risk of miscarriage, abortion, and infections like sepsis, which can spread beyond the uterus and become life-threatening. Another concern is bleeding, which we call antepartum hemorrhage, and conditions like eclampsia or pre-eclampsia where blood pressure rises, leading to severe complications.

Dr. Shivani Sachdev Gour Discusses the Disappearance of the Y-Chromosome

About two years ago, a study was published revealing that in two rodent species — the Eastern European wolf and the spiny rats of Japan — the Y chromosome has disappeared. The research also indicated that these two rodent species have developed a new sex-determining mechanism in another chromosome, where the SRY gene, which typically determines male sex on the Y chromosome, has been relocated. Despite the disappearance of the Y chromosome in these species, males are still being produced because the sex-determining function has been transferred to another chromosome.

In humans, the Y-chromosome is about one-third the size of the X chromosome and contains around 100 genes. In comparison, the X chromosome, which is present in females, has about 900 genes. Over the years, approximately 90% of the genes on the Y chromosome have been lost, and now only about 55 genes remain. It is estimated that it will take another 10-11 million years for the Y chromosome to potentially lose all of its genes.
