Endometriosis and PCOS Affect 190M Women: Dr. Shivani Sachdev Gour

190 million women suffer from Endometriosis and PCOS — Learn about the causes and treatment options from IVF expert Dr. Shivani Sachdev Gour.

Endometriosis and PCOS are two major conditions affecting the fertility of millions of women. However, there's no need to lose hope — motherhood is still possible. The key lies in understanding the impact of these conditions and seeking the right treatment.

The term ‘infertility’ often carries a negative connotation. In India, especially, it is unfortunately associated with social stigma. In our society, marriage is traditionally seen as a sacred beginning to parenthood. But today, women’s lifestyles, priorities, and challenges are evolving. Similarly, for many men, marriage is not just about having children but also about companionship.

As a result, some couples choose to delay parenthood, while others may decide not to have children at all. Beyond personal choices, many external factors are also affecting the reproductive health of both women and men. Among these, Endometriosis and PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) are common causes.

PCOS not only leads to painful periods but can also impact a woman’s ability to conceive. However, it is not incurable. With expert guidance and proper treatment, it is entirely possible for women with PCOS to become mothers.

Dr. Shivani Sachdev Gour, Director of SCI IVF Hospital, located in Greater Kailash, Delhi, shares in-depth insights into how PCOS affects fertility and what treatment options are available.

How to Prepare for Pregnancy After Miscarriage: A Comprehensive Guide

Experiencing a miscarriage can be a devastating and emotionally trying event for any couple. It is a loss that often brings about a wave of grief, confusion, and uncertainty about the future, particularly when considering trying for another pregnancy. However, with the right knowledge, support, and preparation, many couples successfully conceive and carry a healthy pregnancy to term following a miscarriage. In this guide, we will explore how to prepare for pregnancy after miscarriage, with a focus on addressing infertility concerns and seeking appropriate treatment, including insights from Dr. Shivani Sachdev Gour, a renowned expert in women's infertility treatment in Delhi.

Understanding Miscarriage and Its Impact: Miscarriage, defined as the loss of a pregnancy before the 20th week, affects millions of couples worldwide each year. While it's a common occurrence, the emotional toll it takes on individuals and couples cannot be overstated. Many factors can contribute to miscarriage, including genetic abnormalities, hormonal imbalances, uterine issues, and lifestyle factors. However, experiencing one miscarriage does not necessarily mean that future pregnancies will end the same way. It's crucial to remember that miscarriage is often beyond anyone's control and does not indicate a lack of ability to carry a healthy pregnancy in the future.

Addressing Infertility Concerns: After a miscarriage, couples may face heightened concerns about infertility. While experiencing one miscarriage does not automatically indicate infertility, recurrent miscarriages (defined as three or more consecutive pregnancy losses) may warrant further investigation into potential underlying fertility issues. This is where seeking guidance from a fertility specialist like Dr Shivani Sachdev Gour can be invaluable. Dr. Gour, known for her expertise in women's infertility treatment in Delhi, emphasizes the importance of comprehensive fertility assessments to identify any underlying issues that may be hindering conception.

Preparing for Pregnancy After Miscarriage:

  1. Emotional Healing: Before embarking on another pregnancy journey, it's essential for both partners to take the time to heal emotionally from the loss of miscarriage. This may involve seeking support from a therapist, joining a support group, or simply allowing oneself to grieve and process the experience fully.
  2. Medical Evaluation: Consult with a fertility specialist to undergo a thorough medical evaluation. This may include tests to assess hormonal levels, ovarian reserve, uterine health, and genetic screening to identify any potential risk factors for miscarriage or infertility.
  3. Lifestyle Optimization: Adopting a healthy lifestyle is crucial for optimizing fertility and supporting a healthy pregnancy. This includes maintaining a balanced diet, regular exercise, managing stress levels, avoiding harmful substances such as tobacco and excessive alcohol, and ensuring adequate intake of essential nutrients like folic acid.
  4. Treatment Options: Depending on the underlying cause of infertility or recurrent miscarriages, various treatment options may be recommended. These may include fertility medications, assisted reproductive technologies such as in vitro fertilization (IVF), surgical interventions to correct anatomical issues, or genetic testing to screen for chromosomal abnormalities.
  5. Emotional Support: Going through fertility treatments and navigating pregnancy after miscarriage can be emotionally taxing. It's essential to lean on your partner, family, friends, and support networks for emotional support throughout the process. Additionally, consider joining online forums or support groups where you can connect with others who are going through similar experiences.

Conclusion: Preparing for pregnancy after miscarriage can be a journey filled with hope, resilience, and determination. By addressing infertility concerns, seeking appropriate treatment, and prioritizing emotional well-being, many couples can overcome the challenges and ultimately achieve their dream of starting or expanding their family. With the guidance of experts like Dr Shivani Sachdev Gour and a supportive network, the path to parenthood after miscarriage can be paved with optimism and possibility.

Egg Freezing Gives Women Freedom to Start Their Family When They’re Ready

Any woman who is thinking about post poning pregnancy can visit an IVF clinic to find out if you are eligible for this procedure. Pre investigations include blood tests and ultrasound scans and Counselling. The procedure starts on the second day of the period when hormonal injections called gonadotrophins are started to stimulate the ovaries for approximately 12 days and once the ovarian follicles are mature then the eggs are retrieved by doing a small procedure under anesthesia. The woman is discharged from the hospital within few hours of the procedure. The eggs are frozen using a technique known as vitrification or flash freezing.

3 myths associated with Egg freezing

Myth 1: I can do it at any age - Success rates are directly proportional to the woman's age at egg freezing. A survey has shown that there is lack of awareness about biological clock and a feeling that if you eat healthy and stay fit and look younger than your fertility will be equally good in your forties.

Myth 2: You need to be married or have a partner to freeze eggs- It is not necessary to be married to freeze your eggs.

Myth 3: Egg quality gets affected in freezing/ Eggs get damaged during Freezing/Babies born after egg freezing are unhealthy- These claims are untrue as with the new flash freezing techniques and laboratory provisions egg quality and success is maintained and babies are born comparable to natural process of pregnancy.

Safe Motherhood in Covid 19 and its Medicolegal considerations Panel discussion

Pregnant women do not appear more likely to contact the infection than the general population. However, pregnancy itself alters the body’s immune system and response to viral infections in general, which can occasionally be related to more severe symptoms and this will be the same for COVID-19. Reported cases of COVID-19 pneumonia in pregnancy are milder and with good recovery. Pregnant women with heart disease are at highest risk (congenital or acquired).
